How to Protect Your EBay EPC

[bhtweetthis]

If you are creating any eBay sites, and monetizing them using eBay's Quality Click program, then you will soon find that your EPC (Earning per Click) may rapidly fall through the floor because  some low-life scrapper decides to harvest all your sites content.

In doing so his scrapper visits everyone of your affiliate links and so destroys your EPC.

So how do we overcome this.. Continue reading

See what keywords are driving traffic for your competitors

Lately I have been using a technique that a friend of mine showed me that makes it relatively easy to find keywords that drive traffic to your competitors website.

The otherday I was toying with the idea of setting up a lead capture page for a local mortgage broker here in Perth Australia.

Becuase the volume of Google searches specificcally for Perth is low, the keywords that BigG gives back is not always true.

But, imagine if I could "peep" into one of the top ranking sites and see what is driving traffic for them. How valuable would that be? Continue reading

Find Over 10,000 sites that want to give you a backlink

Everyone is looking for an easy way to get backlinks to our website, and just this morning I came across and an absolutley "ripper" of an idea, that has opened the door to over 10,000 websites that I can get backlinks from. Even if only 1/2 of them agree, thats still a lot of back link juice for your website.

10000-backlink-sites

These are white hat sites and the website owners are very happy to have your link on their site.

Still Interested ?

Ok here's the secret..

A lot of people are constantly looking for new content to post into their sites/blogs.

And one of the more common ways of getting content into a WP blog is to join up with Uniqe Article Wizard.

This is a great service, but they have one "flaw" if you can call it that( and its not even their own fault).

So how can we capitalize on this so-called "fault" and get backlink for ourselves?

UAW sends a test post to new blogs when they first join up and most people forget to delete this test post. So all we have to do is find these test posts and compile  a huge list of blog owners that want your original content.

Simply send the author an email, asking if they want original content that is NOT in the UAW system (most will kill for unique content) and then send them the article to post when they say OK

It couldn't be any easier !

So how do you find these UAW test posts?

We look for blog posts that look something like :

easy-backlinks

All I do is search for the text string :

"Congratulations on joining our community! The Unique Article Wizard is the best and easiest way to receive unique content for your site. Here is some important"

Click this link (it just opens up Google in a new window using the text string above) and see for yourself the websites that are returned.

So, now you have no excuse now for not getting backlinks to your website.

Let me know what you think of this idea?

Is Your Ping List a Waste of Time?

[bhtweetthis]

For the past week or so, I have decided to go through my sites and find out whats working for me and whats not!

And one of the first things I found was *a lot* of the ping sites I had in my wordpress ping list where not working anymore.

So I decided to go through my big list of ping servers and find out what was working and whats wasn't.

A couple of things jumped out straight away:

1. Both technorati and Yahoo.com are no longer accepting pings.

Technorati has this announcement on their website (http://technorati.com/ping/) and the yahoo server, that most of us use for ping is no longer active.

So I would suggest you edit your ping list and remove those two sites, and all variations of them.

Even two of the Google ping servers (.ie and .in no longer accept pings)

So after many days of testing sites, I have eventually come up with a ping list that now contains sites that work (ie: the domains are still valid, and the ping servers report something meaningful).

Out of my list of over 150 ping sites, I ended up with the following list of 83 servers:

Making WordPress and Robots.txt work for you

[bhtweetthis]

Every website should have a robots.txt file! But, unfortunately in the rush to get a new website launched, this unseen file seens to get forgeooten and most people simply forget all about their unseen robots.txt file .

When using wordpress, and trying to minimize your duplicate content exposure to the search engines, then having a proper robots.txt file is really important. I blogged about this a few months ago, and you can find the post .

So a good wordpress robots.txt file should look something like this, including the link to your sitemap (in XML format) at the bottom.

But, like the true geek I really am. I got tired of typing this in every time I made a new site. So I created a wordpress plugin that makes this plugin for you.

Yes, there are other wordpress plugin out there, some better, some worse, but this one works exactly like I want it to work. In otherwords, it optimized to the MAX!

So if you want to get the plugin for free, simply .

Go to your plugin menu in the admin area, and activate.

Then click on the BH Robots.txt menu item in the Settings sections and DON'T forget to remove the leading # symbole at the start of the last line. Only remove it if you have a sitemap, otherwise leave it there.

Let me know what you think about this plugin.

How To Hide WordPress’s “Update Now” Notice

We all love WordPress, but recently they have been pumping out new version faster than we can keep up.

I make websites for clients using WordPress, and one of the most annoying things is the banner displayed at the top of the admin area, saying there is a new version, and becuase of that, they want their website update now!

Like all clients, as soon as my clients see this, they have to have their website updated immediately! And then I have to go through all the joys of making sure all the plugins works etc.

So to overcome this annoying update notification, I came up witht the following solution:

I wrote a plugin called "Hide WP Nag"

It simply calls the built-in WordPress function remove_action( 'admin_notices'.
Its really simple and works very well.

I don't know how backward compatible it is, but it works in all version since 2.8.3 to 2.8.6,

You can download the . Unzip it and then upload to your /plugin directory and activate as usual.

For those propellor heads like myself, that want to see how it works, here is the plugin in all its glory 🙂

<?php
/*
Plugin Name: Hide WP Update Reminder
Plugin URI: http://websitesecrets101.com/how-to-hide-wordpresss-update-now-notification
Description: Allows you to remove the upgrade Nag screen from view
Author: Bruce Hearder
Version: 1.0
Author URI:http://websitesecrets101.com/
*/
add_action('admin_menu','bhhidenag');
function bhhidenag()
{
remove_action( 'admin_notices', 'update_nag', 3 );
}
?>

I hope this helps
