Now days ,just about every major search engines rank web pages based on the number of links that point to them. If you want your site to rank well, you must have lots of incoming links. Link Popularity Check is a great FREE windows based application put out by the same people who wrote Arelis (
The program quickly checks how many incoming links each one of your domains have in all the major search engines such as Google, Yahoo, MSN, AltaVista and HotBot. I have not come across any limit to the maximum number of sites you can check at one time.

I use it almost everyday to create Adsense sites and to look for keywords for Adword campaigns.

I'd guess that this site's name was inspired by, but provides a very handy service monitor your web services.
I quote from their website "website and server monitoring service with personalized interactive interface, where you can add server performance and availability tests, get uptime reports, add contacts to get the alert notifications."

It wasn't that long ago that you had to pay $30-$80 a month to have the same service as these guys are providing for FREE. So if you need your web servers monitored these guys could be just the one.

There are plenty of FREE tools out there; you just have know where to look.

Google's Own Keyword Selector Tool

( )

One of the first things you need to do with every online project is to find out how many people are searching for that topic.

Google, the most important search engine on the web, gives us this great little tool that shows how many people searched for a particular topic in the previous 30 days, as well as what keywords they used to do that search..

A site well worth book marking.

Blogger - Google Own Blogging Service

( )

Blogger is very easy to use, and if used the correct way can be a great way to get newly developed sites indexed by the search engines.

You can setup as many blogs as you wish post as often as you wish, and say almost anything you want.

Web Site Code checker

( )

These days it's very easy to quickly put up a website using your favorite WYSIWYG HTML editor, but sometimes they can generate absolutely nasty web code, that can make search engines almost choke just trying to read your site.

Just because internet explorer displays the site OK, doesn't mean that the search engines can read your site properly.

So make sure every HTML page you put up on the web is 100%b HTML clean and correct.

Not only will the search engines love you, but so will your bank balance.

Steve's Templates - Free Web Templates

( )

Steve's templates provide a whole suite of free web templates that you can import into your HTML editor and edit to fir your website. The template found here are very professional and they cover both personal and business style templates.

This site is a platform for free search engine optimization tools.

It also offers a great little FIREFOX plug-in that allows you to access all the SEO Tools on the site, simply by right clicking on your mouse whilst using FIREFOX.

If you don't use FIREFOX then go to and start using it... It’s the BEST!!

Open Office

( )

Let me quote directly from their website

" is a multi platform and multilingual office suite and an open-source project. Compatible with all other major office suites, the product is free to download, use, and distribute. "

Basically Open Office is a FREE alternative to Microsoft Office. It can read and write most if not all the standard Office files.

The aspect I like about it is that its built in word processor (write) can load Microsoft Word documents and then you can save them as standard PDF documents.

This means that you can create your own e-books and reports without having to buy expensive PDF creators.

Give it a go... It's well worth while.

All of the tools I mentioned above are absolutely FREE.

I use almost all of them on a daily basis, so don't waste your hard earned money on expensive tools, use these FREE one.

By Bruce Hearder

WordPress is a fantastic piece of software, and what is even more amazing its Open Source, meaning it will cost you NOTHING!! And you get the source code to !!

Although its not one of the easiest software packages to learn to navigate, it sure packs heaps of power under the hood and once you start to learn some of the basics of WordPress and blogging in general, you will begin to appreciate these features more and more.

There are 2 ways to install WordPress.
1. You can visit and download the full application here, and then manually install it on your server. If you do go down this path, then make sure you check out the following installation guides

WordPress's Famous 5 Minute Installation guide (check it out at )

But an even easier way to install WordPress is to install it using Fantastico that is included with just about every cPanel installation on the planet.

You can log into your cPanel application, and at the bottom of all the icons you see on the main startup page is an icon with a "funny" name called FANTASTICO

Fantastico is way to install all sort of open source application on your server for FREE.

Find the WordPress link on the left hand side of the screen (in the blogs section), and click on it.

Then move across to the right hand side of the screen an click on the word that say "New Installation" - It actually a link but it doesn't have an underline under it.

This pops up a very simple form (and the only form you have to fill out).

Put in your blog details, like what you are going to call it, what you want as login details plus a few other bits and pieces and press the button at the bottom.

Within seconds, you will be taken to another page that will show you the login details for your blog and away you go..

It just could not be easier way to install WordPress..

No messing about with databases, no FTP'ing files back and forth and no messing about setting file permission etc.

It sure is easy.. Check it out..

Harnessing the Power of Robots.txt

robots-txtOnce we have a website up and running, we need to make sure that all visiting search engines can access all the pages we want them to look at.

Sometimes, we may want search engines to not index certain parts of the site, or even ban other SE from the site all together.

This is where a simple, little 2 line text file called robots.txt comes in.

Robots.txt resides in your websites main directory (on LINUX systems this is your /public_html/ directory), and looks something like the following: Continue reading

Redirecting web traffic to a new location

signpostsIf you have to move a website from one domain to another, it will mean that all the links pointing to your old site would now be lost and would generate the dreaded 404 error when visitors came in via old search engine listing or links.

The best way to preserve your links, and have visitors end up on their required page is to setup a redirect from the old domain to the new one. Continue reading

Google’s Human Reviewers and Your Website

Yesterday evening a post appeared on TheRegister discussing how it had come across a "supposedly" secret manual from Google that it provides to “human reviewers” to manually evaluate websites with.

Most people believe that Google’s listing are ranked according to some sort of mathematical equation and would never think that the position of your website is determined by a human reviewer. The answer is somewhere in between.

Finding More Keywords Using Google Suggest

A common question I get asked over and over is ..

"How do I know what people are typing into Google?"

Funny enough most of the people asking this question know how to use the Google External Keyword tool and Google's Keyword tool inside the Adwords control panel.

What they are looking for are additional keyword ideas. The long tail searches that people do that may not show up in the other keyword tools.

My suggestion to these questions is .. Continue reading
